We all have photos of vacations hidden somewhere. They might be in a photo book or maybe they are stuck in your phone. Any vacation will do, a romantic trip to a tropical paradise, a family vacation with loved ones, or maybe even a simple weekend getaway. These photos are more than memories. When used correctly, they have the power to brighten our days and have a positive effect on our mood. It is time we pull out some of those old (or maybe not so old) pictures and use them to help lift our daily mood.
You can probably tell by now I am a beach person. I also love the mountains, and I am no stranger to the national parks, but when I think of a relaxing vacation, I think of the beach. The photo on my office wall is a daily reminder of a recent trip where the happy moments were abundant. On this particular vacation my family and I were involved in a sea turtle rescue and I was surrounded by people I love. My children were young and it was their first time seeing the gulf waters. A glimpse of these memories come back to me each time I look up at the picture. Sometimes I think of the storm right before the photo was taken. Other times I think of the delight on my children's faces the first time the were on the beach. I can see my youngest chasing after the sea birds and a smile comes across my lips each and every time.
Having a photo of a vacation or happy memory is an effective way to improve your mood each day. These photos are usually scattered around our home, but they are also a powerful tool in the work environment. I have placed my photo right in front of my desk, a bit above the chairs in my office. If someone is in my office for an unfortunate conversation, all I have to do is glance up at the photo and I am reminded; my life is good.
